Coroner, Ole Miss confirm death of two students
OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) – Officials have confirmed the deaths of two Ole Miss students.
Lafayette County Coroner Glenn Coleman said the two students died Monday.
The University of Mississippi said its police are not aware of any additional student deaths.
The university added that its police department is working with both local and state law enforcement and that the cause of the students’ deaths is under investigation.
The Oxford Police Department said there is no confirmed evidence indicating that the two deaths are connected. However, packaged Kratom sold from a retail store was found during both investigations.
Dispatch information shows emergency medical services were called to Stewart Hall on Monday around 1:30 p.m. for a possible overdose.
The department added that they do not have confirmed information indicating that kratom or any other substance was a contributing factor in either death.
